Survival Gear Tips: How To Tie A Sleeping Bag To An ALICE Pack

ALICE stands for All Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment. The ALICE pack is a vietnams era military rucksack that has been battle proven and well worth the price you can get them for. Usually about $35-$40 online and in military surplus stores. These backpacks are great little packs for Bug Out Bags, but some folks have a hard time getting the sleeping bag to attach to the outside with out it falling off and hanging down like a gypsy pack.

Good information here, although i admit I haven't ever heard of a Canadian jam before. Must be one of those things that just got an odd name.

You may have to use a Canadian jam on the cat to keep it out of the video

    Cheers for the video,

i've got a large Alice, … i replaced the shoulder straps recently, was thinking of changing the buckles on the (lid) straps for fastex quick release type, i've seen them on ebay, just not sure how robust they are.

I just did something like this to my MSS on my Large Alice on the frame. It looks and balances out the pack a hell of a lot more than what it did. Thanks!!

Now all I need to do is brush up on my knots. haha

+AJ Calacci Yep this will work fine with the bigger green GI issue sleeping bags, that is what all of the students in the USAF survival school carried and this worked great for it.

    Great tip from +J.J. Johnson @ +Reality Survival !
I'll second his process of using 550 instead of the webbing straps.  Always worked better for me!!

Great tip!  I always prefer good ole 550 to the webbing straps.  Seems I can always get a tighter fit!

You need to get your carpenter to come back to your house and fix that joint on your base board.

What about if you have a very large and hard to roll sleeping bag like the one I have which is a military mummy bag?
