Schrade Survival Kit Review

The Schrade Survival Kit looked kind of cool and I like survival kits so I took a look to see what I thought. Compass, whistle, fishing kit and matches. Not bad as long as the matches will strike…..uh-oh.

I've found USO matches work really well n are only $2.86 for a single box of 20 something matches and 2 extra stick pads ..for about $4.35 you get matches a water proof cantiner n a strick pad on the side n 2 extra on the in side ….so I carry 3 ways to start fire ..and 3 kinds of fire tender ..not having fire in a surviver situation wouldn't be very good

commercial "survival kits" are only successful at relieving you of your money, + the idea of using a needle and fishing line for sewing up a wound to me is highly… highly… ambitious. you have an open wound bleeding out with unsterilized hands needles and probably synthetic thread that may or may not be loaded with chemicals that can leach into your blood stream. do yourself a favor buy a cheap medical wound stapler, sterile ready to go and effective.

Your pushing down on the matches to hard. I'm not going to blame the kit for the matches not working.

Brian, what you do is drag out your ferro rod, start a fire, then use that to light the matches. No offense, bud, but I don't think I would buy it even if the matches did work.
Good video, and I appreciate your honesty and integrity.

And this is why I usually build my own survival kits. I haven;t seen a manufactured one yet that I would trust.
    Good review as always.

It's great you show the failures with the successes, you can learn more from the failures (like put fresh matches in once in a while!!). Great stuff, Thanks!

    Sir
I like to see you open that small back and use all of it when you have ice cold fingers
Why? 9 out of 10 times a person needs to survive,, it is when it is cold, and windy ,,
? thanks for a great program sir

So many of these pre-made kits seem to seriously fall short in the fire category. Seriously, how hard can it be to put some strike-anywhere matches in a kit? Or storm-proof matches? Yeah, they're bigger, but I'd rather have fewer but more reliable matches than more but less reliable matches. Or just a tiny ferrorod.

You'd think a company like schrade would put more thought into their kit.

Yeah I'd definitely say Schrade needs to stick to blades. Besides, I didn't see anything there that I can't fit in an altoids tin….except the crappy matches. Ain't got no room for them.
