Prepper Seed Storage – Urban Survival

A special thank you to “Cokeman250” for his wonderful contribution to my family’s “prepper seed storage” / “food storage”. I am very pleased to add twenty five varieties of “survival essentials” “heirloom seeds” to my preps, in addition to canning these “heirloom seeds” will ensure a nice supply of healthy “food storage” to be enjoyed for years to come. “Storing seeds”, just another practice in “urban survival”. http://youtube.com/user/Cokeman250

Different seeds for every region and season. You will need to research what is best for you. I don't know anything about pizza trees but I do recomment staying away from hot dog bushes.

For containers my #1 suggestion is to NOT just fill them up with bags of "potting soil" from the Home depot. Research "sandy loam" it is a mixture of sand, soil, and mulch available in bulk (unbagged) at most outdoor garden centers or rock/gravel yards. You then ammend that with approx 20 percent of the bagged "potting mix" and feed when required. You will need to research when to plant and sun/water requirements for your region/zone. I hope this helps.

Yea, I like the self reliance of the whole thing, but I no next to nothing about gardening. I think that I would have to start with a container vegetable garden. If you could kindly point me to some good resources (books, videos ect.) I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks buddy!

I think the reason I havn't moved on to seeds yet is because I rent, live in the desert, my front yard is mostly gravel, and the part that is dirt is about 5 by 15 feet, lo.

I remember your vid where you bought out an entire rack of seeds, I too keep an eye out for bargains. Growing up I was tought to keep seeds in a dry place at a constant temp, just recently I have been hearing about freezing them and I have started researching it. Thanks for the tip bud.

It sure wouldn't hurt to buy a couple of packets here and there and maybe start experimenting. It can be really fun.

funny you should do this video. this is exactly the metamorphosis ive been going thru. first the crazed ,must store beans, mylar, home depot bucket thing. now im definitely taking a much deeper look at how i plan to feed us,if "IT" should happen.on my other tab ive got it open to a google search page concerning long term seed storage ,seed vaults, and the like.i have a garden this year, but my wife and i are fervently preparing a "back to eden" type garden for next years growing season.great topic!

Good stuff, I keep ALOT of seeds myself too. I have enough for ten years at least lol.
It's better to freeze the seeds as you get a MUCH longer life on them.
    cool vid, take care.
