+Cathy Kreiger You are right in that you don't absolutely NEED to add fat to a basic bread, but you are wrong in your pretty 'sah-rky' comment "fat for what, to get fatter?" Not only can fat add to the flavour of the bread it also helps it to stay fresh longer and makes the texture of the crumb softer/more tender. If you don't want to have to bake bread every single morning, you need fat. And, not ALL fat "makes you fat", you must have some fat in your diet to help your body metabolise and assimilate essential fatty acids, like Omega3, ("essential" because the body can't make them itself).  Fat helps the body absorb vitamins A, D and E. These vitamins are fat-soluble, meaning they can only be absorbed with the help of fats. So whilst overeating anything will make you fat (unless you're a keto fan) it's wrong to point at fat as the culprit.

I love the comments about the value of making your own bread! Aside from saving money (and it DOES add up!) if you source your flour from a good mill, either local of ordered (we are blessed with a miller close-by) you aren't also ingesting a lot of additives they use to make the stuff "fresh" long past the time it should have gone stale!!! Altho they are supposed to be "benign" I'd rather not be eating chemicals that weren't in the grain to start with! I once had a "store-boughten loaf" that was forgotten for weeks at the back of the fridge and there was not a trace of mold. Scary…….

What you said at the end of the video man….that is some good shit right there. Subbing just from the first minute of the vid because it's said the way it SHOULD be said, with no bullshit, no holds-barred reality. I'll be quite frank here, I probably won't be installing a dutch oven in my basement anytime soon… but I'll keep this little but of knowledge in my little skull anyways… good stuff here. Please keep it up!

I think the most important thing here is you talk about not only making the bread but also cooking it with the dutch oven. You could know how to make all kinds of recipes but if you can't operate a wood stove, and more over, cook on it, then it all becomes kindof difficult when you HAVE to do it in a survival situation. I'm going to be adding this recipe to my cookbook. Thank you so much for showing how it's done 🙂

Always remember guys. Knowledge weighs nothing. So always keep learning and carry it with you.

Have you done a video on your wood burning stove? I've never seen one where a dutch oven could fit inside, or maybe I haven't paid much attention either way what a cool piece to have.
